The title of the exhibition describes the skin colour element that comes across in all the disciplines that Sandira Reddy works in: Graphic Design, Photography and Fine Art. The show will feature pieces from each area illustrating all the facets that make up the artist – the fine artist and designer.

This is the first time she will be exhibiting in her hometown of Durban and her aim is to show how her South African background (both political and physical) has influenced her work. It will also showcase how her Indian heritage and migration to England has also affected the art she produces, particularly relevant this year as South Africa celebrates the 150th anniversary of the arrival of Indian migrants, Reddy’s ancestors four generations ago.

The exhibition runs from 23 August to 11 September 2010.

PALE MALE: sitting – walking – standing began as the process of casting my own body in the familiar stances of standing, sitting, walking. I rid myself of all adornments in these positions. The figures, drawings and the stop frame animated video interrogate the axiom that we come into the world empty handed and depart it equally empty handed.  The sculpted body and figures in space become metaphors for a spiritual condition. Stills from 1960′s home movies provide the substance of Preller”s current work. Her unique way of turning random photographed moments into meticulously crafted oil paintings underscores the elusive nature of memory by rendering the prosaic strange and sinister.
